Yes, the little blue dot in the middle of this photograph is a simple atom! An incredible image that allowed his photographer David Nadlinger to win the Grand Prize for Scientific Photography organized by the  Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council . For this shot entitled Single Atom in an Ion Trap, the photographer managed to capture a single atom of strontium, positively charged and maintained in electric fields between two electrodes spaced less than 2mm.
