Surrealist Collages by Amanda Durepos (19 pics)

By collecting and cutting up vintage copies of Vogue, LIFE, Harper’s BAZAAR or National Geographic, the Montreal-based visual artist Amanda Durepos creates surprising and poetic collages. Her studio is full of several hundred magazines, making her seem like a hoarder. She likes to open them randomly to find pictures that appeal to her in order to create retro-futuristic, strange or even grotesque sceneries. Through her collages, Amanda Durepos pushes the viewer to ask themselves questions about the alienation of technology, the body and emotions by juxtaposing landscapes and faces for a surreal result. She also reflects on our relationship with flaws and failure by emphasizing that the biggest part of her creative process is to play and not be afraid to ruin source material or make mistakes.
