Incredible Blending of Eastern and Western Sculptures (13 pics)




For the  NGV   triennial , Chinese Artist Xu Zhen combines sculptural replications of a famous Buddhist statue and Greco-roman, renaissance and neoclassical figures, bringing together eastern and western cultural heritage. Upon a big  ‘eternity-buddha in nirvana’, the artist placed a dozen classical Greek and Roman figures, contrasting yet completing the oriental figure of the sleeping Buddha. An impressive and stunning result, that melts two distinct traditions, to bring, in Xu Zhen own words, ” ‘a new form of creative culture’
