Magnetic Portraits of Jean-Michel Basquiat in 1984 (6 pics)

In June 1984, renowned American photographer Richard Corman went to 57 Great Jones Street, New York City, in Jean-Michel Basquiat studio, to take his picture. Captivating, sincere and minimalist, these portraits of the late painter now became an icon, echo with all the intensity of his paintings and his tragic destiny.  «My immediate instinct was to remove him from all the distractions and place him in front of a thin 4’ wall of grey seamless paper. I wanted to see behind his eyes and allow him to tell the most elemental part of his story – the human spirit behind the art », explains the photographer on his gallery’s website .

An exceptional series highlighting the painter’s charisma. Thirty years after his death, people all around the world continue to admire and get inspired by his art.
