Karin Van Der Molen is an independent artist whose work is based on a central theme : The relationship between humans and nature. Her main goal is to get closer to this nature, because it reflects human activities and its consequences. The artist only works with natural materials, her way to develop her imagination and create a healthy and solid link between her art and the environment: that’s why she defines her work as “environmental art”.

Her serie “The face of another” is a photographic project inspired by a Japanese novel. The story is about a man who receives a mask to cover his face, which is disfigured. This mask, even if it allows him to hide a part of him that he doesn’t like anymore, involves nevertheless a risk: Changing the soul of the character, and becoming another person. The artist provided ephemeral masks to the models, all made of natural materials, and asking an existential question: Do we still know how our original face looks like? From her point of view, each human being is wearing a mask to meet the requirements imposed by a given situation, that’s why she raises the problematic in this serie.
