After the inventions of the year 2000 imagined in 1910 , which I highly recommend, this new series of retro-futuristic illustrations shows us how people imagined the future in 1900! Personal flying wings, video projectors, submarines for the general public, moving buildings, water-walking shoes or machines to control the climate, some astonishing predictions that are close to some of our modern inventions.

These vintage illustrations were published in 1900 by Hildebrand, a German chocolate brand, who commissioned a series of 12 postcards imagining what the future would look like 100 years later.

The amazing geometric kites of Alexander Graham Bell (23 pics)

If Alexander Graham Bell is known mainly for his work on the invention of the telephone, this scientist and engineer of Scottish origin was also passionate about aerodynamics as evidenced by his amazing geometric kites! The kites of  Alexander Graham Bell , built between 1907 and 1912, were designed around a simple tetrahedron pattern, or cells, that could add up to create giant flying structures.

Famous for its posters created by great artists, such as Alphonse Mucha or Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, the Belle Epoque spread out in France between 1879 and 1914, a period marked by social, economic, technological and artistic progress.  Art of the Poster 1880-1918 is a beautiful collection of posters from the Belle Epoque , available as free download, published on Flickr by the  Minneapolis College of Art and Design .

Alice Liddell – The real little girl who inspired Alice in Wonderland (10 pics)

When Lewis Carroll  was photographing Alice Liddell , the little girl who inspired the famous novel Alice in Wonderland ! If we already talked about Kathryn Beaumont, the model for the Alice in Wonderland movie by Disney , I would like to introduce Alice Liddell , the daughter of a couple of friends of Lewis Carroll , who inspired the novelist to write his masterpiece.

4300 photographs from the Invasion of Normandy are now available online (24 pics)

The Flickr account  PhotosNormandie  has just posted more than 4300 photos of the Normandy Landings of June 6, 1944, this decisive date of the WWII . This impressive collection is the result of a collaborative project that began in 2007, bringing together thousands of photos from the Archives Normandie 1939-1945, the Municipal Library of the City of Cherbourg-Octeville and the American archives.
